Halloween Special Review: Hellraiser Part 1 - Introduction | ryuuzaki's Blog
|
Hi all. Sorry I haven't posted for a few days, I've been really busy with my job.
Anyway, you all know that I love watching and reviewing horror movies so I thought that for my October reviews I'd do something a bit special. As Halloween is fast approaching, I decided that I'd watch an entire series of horror films and review them all in three long blogs.
I could beat around the bush, but as you can probably guess from the title of this blog I have picked to review the Hellraiser series. This is purely because I love Clive Barker's novels and the series was never as big as the typical "big three" of serial slasher films (by this I mean, of course, Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street). I don't think that my poor brain could take having to sit thought 10,000 Friday the 13th movies, so instead I've subjected myself to the eight Hellraiser movies, as well as the novel on which they were based.
The movies are as follows:
Hellraiser (1987) Hellraiser II: Hellbound (1988) Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) Hellraiser IV: Bloodline (1996) Hellraiser V: Inferno (2000) Hellraiser VI: Hellseeker (2002) Hellraiser VII: Deader (2005) Hellraiser VIII: Hellworld (2005)
And the novella on which they were based is The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. Over the next three blogs, I will review each of these for you. The next blog (which I will write over the next 30 minutes) will focus on The Hellbound Heart and give a brief introduction towards the characters and style of the series. Each of the other blogs will focus on four of the films. The first four films in the series are the ones that received cinematic releases, while the last four were released straight onto DVD.
Some of the films are good, some are bad and one, in particular, is just plain awful. I hope you enjoy this short series of reviews and have a great Halloween. This Blog Entry's Comment Board (2 comments)
