And the quest continues... | ryuuzaki's Blog

Okay.  Here's my thoughts on the three houses that Vlad and I investigated on Friday:

House 1:  Furnished kitchen was very nice, strange smell throughout house, bathroom in pretty poor condition, area seemed quite rough, graffiti on external walls, good proximity to city centre, bathroom through master bedroom is inconvenient for guests.  Also, although landlord said that lounge was fully furnished, in actuality this meant that it had a bookshelf and small table.

House 2:  House was clean and well painted, completely unfurnished including no white goods in kitchen, nice quiet area, nearby pub, back yard overgrown but included grass and washing line, bathroom through master bedroom is inconvenient for guests, walking distance to railway station and supermarket, probably around 1 mile from city centre.

House 3:  House was clean and well painted, completely unfurnished including no white goods in kitchen, bathroom did not have shower or shower fitting over bath, largest of the three houses, nice quiet area, nearby pub, backyard had large shed which did not seem to open, bathroom through master bedroom is inconvenient for guests, walking distance to railway station and supermarket, probably around 1 mile from city centre.

As you can probably tell, house 2 was the best of the three.  The main problem is that we'd probably have to spend around £700 on buying the basic things we need on moving in.  These are obviously a refrigerator, an oven, a double bed and a washing machine (as the nearest laundrette appears to be at least three miles away and neither of us can drive).

The money is quite a big consideration, though, as we have none.  Vlad is going to the bank today to ask for a loan.  If he fails, we're going to enter into negotiations with my father.  He said he'd give Vlad a loan if all else fails, but my father can be quite stingy with his money so I only want to take him up as a last resort.  We've found one more house that we'd like to look at first, but at present it looks like we'll probably go for house 2, at least until we can find something better.

On top of that, I've been summoned home to see a neurologist regarding my eyes.  I leave tomorrow and hopefully I'll be back on Thursday night.  Vlad is also away from Friday to Sunday as his parents are about to leave England to go sailing around the world.  While very nice, this does make it kind of tricky to look around houses...

And no, Vlad is not coming with me to the hospital.  After the trouble he caused last time, I haven't even asked him to...

Hi Ryuu, Your stressors are continuing, but hopefully the loan will work out one way or another, and you'll get to set up a comfy and cosy home soon. Another challenge to be overcome, one you don't need! But best wishes for a good outcome, and as they say, if at first you don't succeed, don't give up - there is something out there for you. Sorry Vlad cannot be more of a help - hope someone can accompany you on that next doctor's visit. Cheers - at least it's summer where you are! Groffy.

Haven't found out how the loan hunt went, but as Vlad has said nothing I can only assume that it went badly. Did manage to get a friend to come to the hospital with me, but really wish I hadn't. I think that I managed to emotionally scar her when she was forced to watch me have a lumbar puncture. Don't think she'll volunteer to come with me next time...
