The House-Hunter's Blues... | ryuuzaki's Blog

My latest stress, added to speed writing a 15,000 word essay (should hit 6,000 words of it done today), is finding a house for Vlad and I.
Yeah, I'm the only one looking. I tried to motivate Vlad into looking on the www.homes24.com website with me on Sunday, but he made it quite clear that he'd rather be playing on his video games so I've taken on the job myself. I don't think it's quite sunk in to Vlad yet that our contract for the current house runs out in two months time, and if we don't find anywhere else before then our landlady will, simply, throw us out onto the street. For me, this would mean returning home. As home is 300 miles away, it would make searching for a house in Norwich very difficult.
I found five houses that I liked the look of and phoned the company that's letting them. Each of them are two-bedroomed houses on terraces. They all have fitted kitchens and bathrooms. Most are unfurnished, but one boasts 'partial furnishings' which apparently means the downstairs rooms are furnished, but the bedrooms are not. That's currently my favourite, as it will take less money once we move in. Looking on Google Maps reveals that the other houses are in slightly nicer looking areas, though I'll get a better idea once I look around them all on Saturday. Unlike Vlad, I want to move as soon as possible and so I am willing to accept the first nice house in a safe area.
The other problems we've run into are the fact I'm a student (no income - they didn't like that at all), the fact that they do not allow pets (thus I'm just not going to tell them about my insects. Shame we can't get a cat though) and Vlad's income - which (annoyingly) comes to £2000 less per year than they would like. Me getting a job would put us well over their minimum, but as I won't have a job for at least two and a half months, this would mean that we'd have to get the house first.
As I said, we're looking around three houses on Saturday - all of which are significantly closer to the city than the one we're living in now. There are two more houses that I liked, but they're currently tenanted so we'd have to wait to view them. The agency sent me details of another house today that's even closer to the city, but I'm not sure about it as it's very close to the football stadium so I'm a little worried about the area.
As I said, it's all stress that I could do without! This Blog Entry's Comment Board (3 comments)
