Voice chat | ryuuzaki's Blog

Yesterday, I bought myself a headset to use while I play World of Warcraft. Although it took a bit of getting used to, it's incredibly efficient for talking to my guild during group quests. It got a testing last night when two of us boosted a lower leveled player through the 'Stratholme' dungeon - communicating via Skype as we did so.
The most interesting thing about voice chat, however, is the fact that it totally destroys the image of your comraides that you build while playing. It's a statistical fact that, while most people who play World of Warcraft are male, most of the characters that they roll are female. Even though I already knew which guild members were male before I began it's very strange to hear their male voices when you imagine them as being their characters - mainly pretty little blood elves. The whole thing takes a bit of getting used to.
I'm actually looking forward to using the headset more later. I'm very close to level 80 now - the highest level that you can currently reach in the game - so it'll be fun skyping while running the higher level (heroic) instances and raids.
