And back... | ryuuzaki's Blog

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I returned to Norwich so that I could peruse the University library for dissertation stuff while I waited for my results. I've just bought my train tickets so I can head back tomorrow. By lunch time on Monday, I should know how serious my eye problem really is.
I've finally started to write my dissertation now. Its topic regards how effective film is as a medium for philosophical ideas. The 1,200 words I wrote yesterday were the start of a section on how certain philosophical analogies lend themselves incredibly well to film - focusing on Plato's analogy of the cave and Descartes's three waves of doubt and how crucial they are to the plots of A Clockwork Orange, Total Recall and The Matrix. I intend to next move onto how abstract concepts can also be used in film. I'm thinking of using The Lord of the Rings, Hollow Man and possibly Fight Club to emphasize this. After that, I think I'm going to do a boring bit of philosophy theory to tie it all up nicely.
Unfortunately, in spending a day writing I've totally ruining my vision to the extent where I'm virtually blind in my left eye today. It also feels as though it's been sandpapered. Today, I'm going to have a walk into town and possibly go for a drink with Audrey to relax it a bit.
Vlad is supposedly coming with me for a few days so that I'm not alone when I get my results. I say supposedly, as he promised me that he would be there but still has not bought his tickets or gotten the time off work, and we all saw over Christmas that often if Vlad does not want to go somewhere he'll just 'forget' to make arrangements. I'm a little hurt by this, as I would like him to be with me in case I get bad news; but that's Vlad for you.
Check back later to discover whether or not Vlad does buy a train ticket today... This Blog Entry's Comment Board (3 comments)
